But this is precisely why I urge you to put your trust in God alone for the future. As I have often said, predictions like these about the future are almost never on target (or else they are too vague to really mean anything). Why build your life around them or get your guidance from them? They are only a substitute for the guidance you really need—which is from God.

My other concern, however, is one that I hope you will take very seriously. These things may seem innocent and amusing at first—but it’s easy to get more and more fascinated with them, and eventually become involved in occult practices that are not from God.

Don’t be misled: Occult practices are not from God, but from spiritual forces opposed to God. Instead, put your faith and trust in Christ. When we know Him, we know we are safely in His hands no matter what the future holds. The Bible is right: “When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists … should not a people inquire of their God?” (Isaiah 8:19).

Some people just do it for fun and entertainment… to spook themselves or amuse themselves etc. No big deal.

Some people do it to cheat people out of their money, feeding on the fears and anxieties of believers by giving them readings of what they want to hear or what they fear most and then promising to help them if they pay more money.

Some people do readings because they genuinely learn things from the cards and are able to look at a situation in a new light when they interpret the cards.

Some people use the cards to tap into their “psychic” senses.

Personally, I do it for the third reason. I genuinely learn things from the cards when I read with them. It’s not so mysterious, really… they are brainstorming tools… they provide random ideas and my mind, both my logical brain and my intuitive brain, sorts through those ideas to find things that make sense in the context of he situation, which often provides insights that I couldn’t have gotten without the cards. It forces me to think through possibilities I wouldn’t have thought to consider before turning the cards.

The cards are not magickal, they are not possessed by spirits, they have no innate powers of their own. They are tools, mere cards with pictures on them, but they can have a powerful effect on the viewer… a picture can say more than a thousand words, as the saying goes…

I also find them beautiful and there is an element of entertainment withing them… just as a motion picture can be entertaining while also being profound, thought-provoking and moving. It’s not JUST entertainment. It’s whatever you make of the message you receive.
